Flame-Ox®

The Flame-Ox® oxidizer system was designed to clean up severely contaminated sites. The system can safely process significantly higher concentrations (up to 100,000 ppm or more) and is a great match for a rapid response situation or accelerating the cleanup schedule by eliminating a need to balance process flow with dilution air. The Flame-Ox® can directly accept the higher concentrations and the control system adjust to changing conditions.

The 3-in-1 operation allows the Flame-Ox® to perform initially in the Flame mode under high concentrations and then convert to a traditional thermal oxidizer mode once concentrations fall to less than 40% of the LEL. As the concentrations at the site decline further, the system can then be converted to the catalytic mode. This allows one abatement system to be used for the full life cycle of the remediation project.

Ideally suited to treat off-gas from soil vapor extraction system (SVE) or multi/dual-phase extraction systems (MPE/DPE) in the presence of free phase gasoline.

Three modes

  1. Flame mode for heavily contaminated air stream
  2. Thermal mode is most efficient concentration levels of <50% LEL
  3. Catalytic mode is most efficient for concentration levels of <25% LEL

Recuperative Thermal Oxidizer

A recuperative thermal oxidizer is best for process applications with lower flow rates or VOC concentrations above 10% LEL. The recuperative thermal oxidizer heat exchanger is designed to recover up to 75% of available thermal energy for reuse in preheating the incoming process airstream.

Standard VOC destruction efficiency for a recuperative thermal oxidizer is 99% plus. Each oxidizer is designed for the conditions of a specific application. Sizes range from 200 SCFM to 10,000 SCFM. The oxidizer body is a compact preassembled unit consisting of a shell and tube heat exchanger combustion chamber, burner and internal light ceramic fiber insulation.

  • Constructed of high-quality materials for superior life expectancy
  • Small space requirements due to compact, integrated design
  • Skid mounted, easy to install or relocate
  • Up to 70% thermally efficient resulting in low operating costs
  • Secondary heat exchangers are available for additional heat recovery capabilities
  • Airflow turndown of 4:1 providing operation flexibility

Horizontal Gas Thermal Oxidizer-HGTO

The Horizontal Gas Thermal Oxidizer (HGTO) is available in sizes to 4,000 SCFM and can be fitted with a heat exchanger.

The Horizontal Gas Thermal Oxidizer offers the flexibility of a thermal oxidizer with the option to be converted to catalytic mode in the field at any time.

Standard thermal oxidizer system packages are available from 250-1500 SCFM and can be operated on natural gas or propane. Allowable concentration levels are typically up to 5000 ppm.

The standard package is equipped with a burner that uses the process air for combustion air. An option is available to add a dedicated combustion air blower if the oxygen concentration of the process air may be less than 19%.

The optional catalyst module can be quickly inserted in the field with only using minimal equipment.

Applications of thermal oxidizers include environmental remediation projects, amine stripper off gas, condensate storage tank, and tank battery vent gases.

The system can be manufactured with an integrated vacuum extraction system or can be coupled to an existing or independent system. All control panels can be equipped with communication packages for remote monitoring.
